June Challenge – Steps!

Take part in this months challenge by walking as many steps as possible each day!

We want you to log your steps with us, and one of our very kind members, Lois Brown, has agreed to record them all for us every day.

We will celebrate success in many ways, not just who is doing the most each day. Everybody’s journey is different so just aim to improve as the month goes on and take more steps than you have before. Beat yourself and no-one else!

Benefits of increasing your steps!

Walking is one of the simplest things that we can do to improve our physical and mental health.

Not only will increasing our number of steps improve our cardio vascular fitness, over time it has been shown to lower blood pressure, and reduce the risk of strokes and heart attacks.

Walking is also great for our mental health, reducing stress and improving your mood. Taking time out for a walk also gives you some head space and time to think, or maybe time not to think and just appreciate the world around us.

Walking regularly improves our core strength and balance, and increases our stamina, you don’t need to run marathons to be fit, a fast purposeful walk up a hill can get you just as breathless as a jog or a run, if you push hard enough.

Taking regular physical exercise such as walking, also reduces fatigue, as it makes you feel more alert during the day and helps you to sleep better at night.

This month!

Find new ways to increase your steps – it might mean a walk to school or work, instead of the car or public transport. Find a friend to get out and have a walk with, in the evenings now the lighter (and hopefully warmer) nights are here, or maybe try a new sport that gets you on your feet for longer.

However you do it, just do more and don’t forget to log your steps with us every day!

How it works!

Every day in June, a post will appear in the Be Strong Facebook group. For each day, we want you to log your steps in the comments of the daily post, either with a screenshot from your phone’s health app, a photo of your fitness tracker or pedometer.

If you aren’t on Facebook, you can log your steps in the same way on the activity feed of your social profile on the Be Strong website, and we will pick them up.

Lois will then kindly record everyone’s steps.   Each week we will release a leader board for who has done the most steps, and also those who have made the most progress each week, and then the totals at the end of the month.

So good luck everyone and get stepping!
