Our member Sue sent us this recipe, for a healthy fakeaway treat.  Homemade doner kebab in less time than it takes for the local takeaway to deliver, and far less calories! Ready in less than 30 minutes and less than 400 calories! What’s not to love about that?

Description

Fantastic fakeaway Friday night treat!


Ingredients

Scale

1tsp rapeseed oil

400g lean lamb mince (5%fat)

2 garlic cloves crushed

1tsp ground cumin

1 tsp ground coriander

1/2 tsp onion powder

1/2 tsp smoked paprika

1/2 tsp sea salt

1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper

To Serve

4 brown pittas

1/2 iceberg lettuce, shredded

1/4 red cabbage, cored and shredded

1/2 red onion, thinly sliced

1 red pepper sliced

2tbsp chilli sauce

4 tbsp plain low fat yogurt

2 tbsp pickled chillies (optional)


Instructions

  1. Preheat over to 200c/180c fan/gas 6
  2. Brush oil over a 1kg/2lb 4oz loaf tin
  3. In a large bowl mix the mince, garlic, spices and seasoning with your hands until smooth
  4. Press into the loaf tin and bake for 20 minutes
  5. Once cooked set aside to cool enough to handle.
  6. Meanwhile, heat the pittas in the oven for five minutes
  7. Turn the meat out of the tin, slice lengthways into thin strips.
  8. Open each pitta and pile in the salad and meat. Add the chilli sauce and yogurt and your optional chillies if you want them.
  9. Enjoy!

Made this for weekend tea as not having tack away and I must say it was better than the really thing I use beef not lamb and was please with the end result will be having this again.






I made a version of this using 5% beef mince & slightly different seasonings- 1tsp cumin, oregano, sea salt & mixed herbs, 1/2tsp onion granules, garlic granules, smoked paprika, ground coriander, cayenne pepper & pinch black pepper- 4 servings 161 cal for the diner, cooked it in my ninja so no oil
